Transitions

Life has many transitions. Upon having a new change in life, a new experience is had. Without those changes, we are left in a comfort zone that can be all too familiar. What if we never left those areas of comfort? What things would we never experience and learn?

A recent transition of mine is the long awaited transfer from Chabot College of Hayward to San Jose State University. It took me awhile to realize what I truly wanted in life. Trust me, it can take people some time. During my extended time at Chabot, I have learned many things, had great experiences, met awesome people, and came out with an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts. Not saying that I stayed comfortably, but I definitely needed a change. So the spring semester of 2011, I charged at my final last three classes and finished. The acceptance from SJSU had me all smiles. I can still remember the feeling of reading "congratulations" on the letter. Come this Fall, I will be taking classes towards my major of Japanese. It is a much needed transition for me, and I can't wait. I am currently waiting for my final transcript to be processed so I can register for classes.

Life has many changes. Uncomfortable as some may be, they give us the experiences that allow us growth in life. To all the 2011 graduates, life awaits. Take your time and do not get caught up in all the hard work. Your efforts will pay off, just remember to have some fun in the process.

Ignorance is Bliss...

Has one heard this phrase before? Its likely you have. Believe it to be true?

In relation to this phrase is "What you don't know, cannot hurt you". A lot of people would regard this as a true statement. We live our lives ignoring the things we see as being not directly important to us. How would that affect me? What does that have to do with anything?

There is a lot that we are unaware of in each others lives. The assumption that something is happening for a reason is still an assumption. Assuming is a quick form of not understanding. To understand something or someone, is something that more people should take more time doing. The next time someone is acting differently, try to understand as to maybe what the reason is. There maybe an unknown cause as to the changes they're experiencing. Understanding is a part of growing up. Growing up is inevitable, no matter the maturity rate.

The ability to understand and possibly help another human being is a rewarding experience. My point to this small discussion is to be able to slow down a bit, think rationally, and be understanding. Understanding what is around you will give you experience and knowledge in any future situation.

So is ignorance really bliss? Some may still see it that way, but to ignore whats around you will only limit you in the long run. Life isn't about sticking to what you know, but to learn and expand your horizons. Treat people the way you would want to be treated. Thrive.

Bucket List

A "Bucket List" is a list of actions or goals that are to be achieved in the time that you have in life. Rules are simple, write down the things you want most in life and set out to accomplish them. There is no minimum as to how many you may have. The only requirement is that you be serious and goal driven enough to accomplish those goals. Keep in mind that the journey is just as important as the end result.

My list was started in October of 2010. Since then many things have been crossed off, but many things have also been added. In short period of 8 months, I have created memories that I will forever remember and cherish.  Many of them have been things that I have always wanted to do but always procrastinated doing.  I had an "I'll get around to it later" attitude where those things were never done. The motivation was sparked after a downfall of mine, but things in life happen where you do not have control so you try and make the best of it.

The things that I have crossed off my bucket list have given me so much to be thankful for.  Some were done solo, others were done with good friends. All were experiences that I'll always remember.

Life is short. Make the most of it and in the end you will have no regrets.
